THE KANSAS FOOD SYSTEM:
ANALYSIS AND ACTION TOWARD SUSTAINABILITY
This analysis of the Kansas food system looks at what is produced and consumed w i t h i n our s t a t e and how a g r i c u l t u r e impacts our environment and natural resources. The material present was collected with help from the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, Kansas State University, various state agencies, and with help from the staff at The Cornucopia Project of Rodale Press, the Kansas Rural Center, and the Lawrence Appropriate Technology Center.
The Kansas Food System is only the beginning of the analysis that is needed to fully evaluate our state's agriculture and food needs. It is intended to provide a larger perspective of the food system of Kansas and to plant the seeds for a healthy discussion of the future agriculture and food needs of Kansas. This study concludes with actions we can take as consumers, producers, agri-businesses, and as determiners of state government policies to create a more sustainable Kansas food system.
