Charlotte French fills position of Communications Coordinator

Hello,

Charlotte French and family found morels on their Easter Egg hunt!

I am thrilled to be taking on the position of Communications Coordinator for Kansas Rural Center. Some of you may already know me from various KRC events and other goings-on in our state, but here is a little background for those who don't.

I am a small-town farm kid. I grew up in Rossville, where I was in 4-H and FFA. My family owned a cow-calf operation which I helped manage late into my 20's. My family still has our row crops which I am learning to manage for when someone new has to take over.

I love farming and farmers. Growing up, I had the honor of sharing many meals with the local farmers at "Swirley Top," Rossville's former greasy spoon. Small towns and rural lifestyles are a special part of our culture and the backbone of America. While my early years signal a conventional farm and ranch upbringing, it must be known that I care very deeply about the state of our planet and the practices that affect it.

I view myself as an environmentalist through the lens of my work at Ogden Publications and Farming Unlimited, volunteering with our local Sierra Club, and through my personal life. I drive a plug-in hybrid, practice lasagna layers in my garden, and am currently developing a passive solar greenhouse from the foundation of my parents' former barn. My six-year-old daughter, Claire, proudly recycles, adventures outside, and has deep empathy for life and "Mother Earth," for which I proudly take credit.

I understand how the livelihoods of rural Americans directly influences progress. I am looking forward to using my knowledge of communications to passionately work to educate, bridge gaps, strengthen our communities and food systems through KRC's mission.

All my best,

Charlotte French
