The Local Food and Farm Task Force Report has been released and can now be found on the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s website. To read the full report, click the following link – Task Force Report. The report features over 20 recommendations based on the four directives listed in the Task Force Statute. KRC’s Feeding Kansas recommendations to support K-State Research and Extension horticulture are echoed throughout along with others supporting community food solutions such as community gardens and food hubs. Other recommendations in the task force report call for the development of economic data relevant to the states local food systems, support for Kansas Department of Agriculture Local Food Coordinator position and marketing programs and the continuation of the Local Food and Farm Task Force in 2016, which has already seen activity with SB 314.
Task Force Chair Ron Brown and Representative Adam Lusker presented the report findings and SB 314 to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee January 21. Brown and Senator Dan Kerschen presented to the Senate Agriculture Committee January 26. The Bill is still in the Senate Agriculture Committee. Legislator response to the bill and report has been very positive.
Stay tuned as KRC will continue to report updates and progress on SB 314 and other task force report recommendation progress. Thank you to all of those who have attended Task Force meetings and supported KRC’s Feeding Kansas recommendations this past year!
