Iowa Researcher Looking for Farmers for Focus Group on Agroforestry / Bioenergy / Carbon Sequestration Project
Ashley Hand is a researcher at Iowa State University currently working as part of an NCR-SARE grant project exploring farmer land use decision-making on marginal lands in the Great Plans states of KS, NE, SD, and ND. She is currently planning to conduct farmer focus groups in Kansas in about a month, and is still seeking about 5-8 more individuals to participate.
The project is offering a $100 incentive payment for participation in a 2 hour group. They are interested in folks who have heard of or have established agroforestry practices (windbreaks, riparian buffers, etc), and who are responsible for land-use decision making on their farms. They plan to capture perspectives on what constitutes “marginal land,” opinions on integrating trees, and opinions on biofuels and biomass production.
