Executive Director Job Description: Kansas Rural Center
The Executive Director is the key business manager for the organization, supervising the programmatic, personnel, and financial operations and serving as its spokesperson. This person will work with the Board of Directors to fund the organization, set policies, expand capacity, and lead the programmatic direction of KRC, while working closely with staff to carry out KRC’s mission, programs, and objectives.
Salary: between $45,000 and $55,000; commensurate with experience
Location: Home or office in Kansas
- Leadership experience in nonprofit, business, or organizational management.
- Understanding of Midwest U.S. agriculture, food systems, rural development, climate change, and/or experience in natural resource management.
- Fundraising and grant-writing experience.
- A relevant academic degree is preferred.
Key responsibilities include:
Administration and Budgeting: Develop and manage an annual budget, coordinate/oversee all fiscal operations, including management of grants, donations, and payments.
Fundraising and Grants: Oversee writing and execution of grants, cultivate donors with fundraising communications, and work with the Board and staff to develop and implement fundraising plans and events.
Program and Policy Work: Develop and coordinate program activities and policy positions with input from staff and Board, oversee program work as specified in grant projects, and support staff in accomplishing program and policy objectives. Expand partnerships and collaborate with other organizations and state agencies to further KRC’s mission and objectives.
Staff Management: Maintain systems of accountability and supervision to achieve staff productivity and project goals, organize/facilitate regular staff meetings, and guide and evaluate staff as-needed for organization success.
Liaison to the Board: Prepare/provide regular reports and analysis to Board on short- and long-term operations, and Strategic Plan goals and objectives.
Public Relations/Communications: Act as primary spokesperson for KRC, oversee KRC’s newsletter publication, engage media on public affairs and policy positions.
