Powell Gardens High Tunnel Tour
September 13, 2014 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Attention all growers and garden enthusiasts!
Powell Gardens would like to invite you to our first annual High Tunnel Tour. In 2014, Powell Gardens constructed a 1-acre multibay Harnois high tunnel off of the main garden’s property. Generally not open to the public, these 7, 31’x 200′ tunnels are an impressive sight. Currently, 4200 tomato plants are growing there as part of a local and organically grown wholesale initiative.
On Saturday, September 13, from 11am-2pm, the Gardens will host an open house for growers, farmers, and other interested professionals. After touring the tunnels, guests will receive a free pass to enjoy the rest of Powell Gardens including the Heartland Harvest Garden! www.powellgardens.org.
Directions: If you are heading east on HWY 50 (as if to travel to Powell Gardens from Kansas City), you will turn in to the entrance at the old Cider Keg property. This entrance is the first left (Highway 50 crossover) just before the main Powell Gardens entrance. Follow the gravel road about a quarter of a mile back until you see a blue house and the tunnels.
