Heartland Alliance Tree Keepers and Orchard Keepers Workshops

March 28, 2017 - April 1, 2017

Heartland Tree Alliance offers two upcoming tree care workshops: TreeKeepers and/or OrchardKeepers (NEW)!
For over a decade now, Bridging The Gap’s Heartland Tree Alliance program has been training residents to become stewards of our urban forest. Through a comprehensive TreeKeepers course, residents learn about basic arboricultural principles. We’ve trained over 300 TreeKeepers to date. AND NOW – we are expanding our training to include fruit trees! In partnership with the Giving Grove, we are offering a separate 3-day course on how to care for and maintain fruit trees. Caring for fruit trees takes a different skill set and knowledge – we hope this training will inspire you to plant your own fruit tree or volunteer to care for one of Giving Grove’s community orchards.

Through twelve hours of classroom learning and six hours of outdoor training, participants learn about tree identification, soil biology, site suitability, proper planting and pruning techniques, common insects and diseases, and much more! Taught by urban forester, Chuck Conner with the Missouri Department of Conservation.
