BEGINNING ORGANIC GRAIN & LIVESTOCK FARMER TRAINING EVENT March 21, 2019
Central Plains Organic Farmers (CPOF) in collaboration with the National Farmers Organization (NFO) is presenting a training workshop, titled “FARMSTARTS”, for beginning organic farmers in the central plains region. The FARMSTARTS event is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2019 in the Conference Room, Severance Student Union, North Central Kansas Vo. Tech., 3033 U.S. Hwy 24, Beloit, KS beginning at 8:45 a.m.
For purposes of this project, a beginning farmer is someone interested in entering organic farming or who has farmed for fewer than 10 years. Beginning farmers can be young people just finishing school and beginning their careers, or beginning farming as a second career. This project will pay beginning farmers a $200 expense allowance for taking the time to attend the workshop. For farming couples we encourage each spouse or partner to attend. Established farmers and others are also welcome, but they are not eligible for the allowance.
The FARMSTARTS series of workshops is funded through a USDA Beginning Farmer and Rancher grant to the National Farmers Organization in collaboration with the Central Plains Organic Farmers (formerly Kansas Organic Producers). Kansas workshops over the past two years have attracted over 180 potential organic farmers.
