A Certified Farm? Certification options and why they may, or may not, matter for your farm.
By Natalie Fullerton
Obtaining certification can be a great addition to farmers’ marketing efforts, adding value to farm products and attracting the attention of a particular niche market. From Animal Welfare Approved to Organic, Bee-friendly to American Grass-fed, there are many types of certifications available. Some certifications are easier to obtain than others, with the process for certifying farm products varying with each type of certification. No certification promises immediate success for niche marketing farms, however certifications can be a practical tool to compliment and assist with marketing quality products.
