The Kansas Rural Center (KRC) will hold its annual Farm and Food Conference Friday and Saturday November 8-9, 2019 in Wichita at the Drury Plaza Broadview Hotel. This year, the two-day program will include a Friday evening anniversary celebration of KRC’s 40 Years as the voice for sustainable agriculture and a sustainable food system in Kansas.
Under a theme of “Planting Ideas, Growing Our Future: Carbon, Climate and Communities”, speakers, panelists and workshop sessions will feature presentations and discussions on how biological, human, and economic diversity builds resilience and how we can make it happen on our farms and in our communities.
The keynoter for day one is Fred Iutzi, President of The Land Institute, who will address “Agriculture’s role in economic justice and ecological sustainability” exploring new ways to produce food in a redesigned agricultural system that will meet our needs in a changing climate. Day two will feature keynoter Becca Jablonski, Colorado State University Local Foods Agricultural Economist, on “Leveraging Urban Food Markets to Support Rural-Urban Linkages & Regional Economic Development.”
Both days will feature 12 workshops each day ranging from thought provoking presentations on a hot issues, to practical how-to’s for your farm or community and organizing how-to’s for advocacy and grassroots engagement.
Land/Farm Owner & Seeker Mixer
New this year will be a special Land/Farm Owner and Land Seeker Mixer held as one of the workshop sessions on Friday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm. The Mixer is open to non-conference goers as well as those attending the conference. The mixer is an opportunity to network and connect those who have farms or land to those who are seeking a farm or land, or an opportunity to gain experience farming. Pre-registration for this one workshop will be required.

Early bird registration to attend the two day conference is available at $70 per day or $135 for both days until Sept. 30th. After that registration will be $75 per day or $145 for both days. Scholarships and student rates available. Please inquire at email@example.com.
The Friday evening (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) 40th Anniversary celebration with an extended hor d’oeuvres buffet, Kansas beer and wine, and music is also open to non-conference goers for $40 for 40 Years.Conference Registration

Free parking, a hot breakfast and evening drinks and snacks are available at the hotel. A free trolley shuttle also makes regular stops at the hotel for transport around down town, Delano and the Design districts.
